2. The surface for Alloy 20 pipe tube
Annealing. In general, the main purpose of annealing heat treatment is to soften the steel, regenerate overheated steel structures or just remove internal tensions. It basically consists of heating to austenitizing temperature (800ºC and 950ºC depending on the type of steel), followed by slow cooling.
Stainless Steel is usually sold in the “annealed” condition. It means that the material is in the “soft” or annealed condition. The 300 series of stainless can not be hardened by heat treatment (like carbon steels) but can be hardened by cold working. ... Annealing increases ductility and eliminates internal stresses.
